Darryl Hebert, Retired Oceanside Fire Chief

Co-Founder and Board Member of MITFFAD

Darryl Hebert has been a member of the fire service for over 28 years. His career has led him to experience incredible things including responding to the tragedy that occurred in New York on  September 11, 2001.  He recently retired from the Oceanside Fire Department where he served the last 6 1/2 years as the Fire Chief. Currently, he is working for Palomar College as the Fire Technology/Academy Supervisor and is passionate about preparing students who desire a career in the fire service. His appreciation for the men and women who serve our country, has inspired him to create unique opportunities that will assist them in gaining information and training on how they can obtain a career in the fire service. When he is not working, he enjoys coaching high school baseball and spending time with his family and friends.

Joe Ward

Deputy Chief of Operations, Oceanside Fire Department

Deputy Chief Joe Ward started his career with the Oceanside Fire Department in 1992 as a firefighter paramedic.  In 1998 he was promoted to Captain 6 years after getting his start with Fire Department.  He served several terms in the Training Division as the Assistant Training Officer.  He spent 12 years as a Captain implementing different training programs before he was promoted to Battalion Chief.  Chief Ward spent three years Shift Battalion Chief Ward before taking the next step.  Chief Ward was promoted to Division Chief of Fire Training, where he was an integral part in developing manipulative standards and established the Fire Department Training curriculum and calendar.  Chief Ward was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief of Operations in 2017 and is currently responsible for managing and supervising Operations Division, Fire Training Division, EMS Division, and the Lifeguard Division.  In addition to those responsibilities, Chief Ward is responsible for Human Resources, complaints, recruitment, and disciplinary issues for the department. Chief Ward currently Chairs the North Zone Ops Section and sits on many committees inside and outside the San Diego County.

He maintains active memberships in numerous professional and trade organizations. He holds numerous Chief Officer Certifications, including CPSE national Chief Officer Certification, and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration.  Chief Ward resides in the City of San Marcos, has been married for 25 years, and has three amazing daughters. Also, Chief Ward spends his free time coaching, teaching, and spending time with his family at the river.

David Bareno is a entrepreneur whose vast experience spans the spectrum from sports equipment manufacturing to printing and design to technology integration. David has drawn from his broad career to develop Think Box Concepts, offering ideas and services that integrate technology, marketing, and sales within an organization. David enjoys writing, golf, photography, snow sports and spending time with his beautiful wife of 9 years!

Angie Schultz

Angie Schultz is the owner of Opposable Thumbs, a graphic design and marketing studio based in downtown San Diego. She is an award-winning graphic and web designer with more than 20 years experience in commercial design, project & design management, and consultation. Her portfolio includes hundreds of projects for major manufacturers, national retailers, and nonprofits.

Angie believes in giving back and has been a library board member, city councilor and served on various committees. In addition to serving on the board of Military In Transition-Firefighter For A Day, Angie is also a founding member of Compete 4 Causes.

Tory Haynes

Tory works closely with the Emergency Medical Education and Fire Technology/Academy Departments.  She is passionate about helping the men and women who have and continue to serve our country, fulfill their academic and career goals.  Tory attended the University of Redlands in San Bernardino County earning her Bachelors of Art in Liberal Studies and PE and Athletics as well as her Masters of Arts in Higher Education.  Most of her studies were focused on academic advising and creating new programs for student success. She currently resides in North County San Diego where she grew up.  On her free time she enjoys being outdoors, being active, and traveling.

Sallay Kim

Great events do not happen by accident!  Hence Serenity's goal is to offer “Peace of Mind, Every Time!”  Covering details from inception through the execution, we focus on items such as site selection, contract negotiations, meeting management, transportation coordination and entertainment along with all the administrative concerns an event can call for. Serenity has put on multi day conferences, extended programs for international groups, appreciation dinners, grand openings, receptions and much more.

As a retired Army officer, Sallay has an extensive planning background in both conventional and unconventional events, a graduate degree in event management as well as having earned the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation.  She’s a board member with the Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation and volunteers monthly at the Veteran’s Association of North County. Sallay is an avid golfer, serial entertainer and enjoys boxing, cycling & traveling with her husband, Tae.
